It all started when the club where we usually held our events closed, giving us only an hour’s notice.
Why rogue?
“Rogue” aligns with our exploration of pushing the edges of societal norms. Rogue is off the rails, abnormal, and independent. Radically seeking harmless fun, amusement, and adventure. While it often carries some negative connotations, it generally aligns with our roles because it also possesses traits that are not inherently bad or harmful. After all, we’re already seen in a negative light by people coming from a “normal” mainstream lifestyle, or especially a Christian angle, portraying the alternative, kink, and fetish lifestyles as abnormal, evil, and harmful. Even a Christian lifestyle – the Bible – approves* of the lifestyle if you don’t pick and choose passages to tweak the view mainstream Christians typically want to portray. Thus, we’re going rogue. We are alternative, kinky, with fetishes that most consider abnormal; thus, we are going rogue.
In the beginning
In the beginning, we skipped our regular fetish night at 1135 Decatur/The Dervish/The Crystal/Blue Crystal/Ruby-fruit Jungle/et al Thus, we went “Rogue” and partied a block away at The Dragon’s Den. Interestingly, they officially hosted us, the “Non-Rogue,” about a year after that, before returning to 1135 under a new facility owner and name.
Beyond the club
Rogue complements our Photo/Rope Bombing, Gorilla Rope, and Urban Exploration activities as we defiantly and confidently express our fierce, bold style to create our art (See definition of ‘fierce’ below).
It also goes interestingly, though ironically, with our independence as we hold firm against abusive, bullying, or cliquish groups, both lifestyle and mainstream. “Ironic” given the negative some consider “rogue.” Yet, similarly, it is very fitting, given the justice, that we push back on the evil of the world.
* NOTE: There is much evidence that Christian beliefs not only specifically allow, but also positively approve of the kink/fetish lifestyles. However, that discussion is beyond the scope of this page.
