(DRAFT: Feb 19, 2013)

Total Revision: simplified compensation but complicated reasoning.

This is not a get rich task:

Why: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 -- (Top)

Why? Part I of III

You have a range of people performing....

  1. Those that do it because they love it (Its a Lifestyle Choice), and
  2. Because they make money from it (The Professional Model)
  3. Then there is the hybrid... this is the lifestyler that wants some extra money, and the professional that just happens to do what they love
Lifestyle Choice
(Will do it for no $ which is a bonus)
Hybred Professional Model
($ Varries on experience & Quality)
A: Lifestyle people do it for fun <<---->> Do it for there portfolio (No $)
B: Lifestyle people do it for the challenge <<---->> Do it for money (Yes $)
C; Lifestyle people do it to show off <<---->> Compete with Lifestylesrs (Lower $)
D: Are no names but are willing or wanting to do more <<---->> Draw viewers for money (Yes $)
The Economy Stupid: The thing that affects both of the lifestyler and the professional is the fact that the economy is not as strong as it has been. While there is generally always demand for ero themed products,
  • The art becomes more of a hobby for some in a down economy because there is little disposable income for people to spend
  • More people look to make a buck from it due to not having other income so the competition for the remaining dollar is fierce
Why: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 -- (Top)

Why Part II of III

Art: I do it for the art, and for the community.

Much of what I do is for

  • The Expression
  • The Creativity
  • Pushing society and emotion to "The Cutting Edge"
  • Community gift
  • Getting the lifestyle out there helps further the cause as well as the art and expression.
(Though the "edge and expression" may shock people. --That's typical of art in general-- Some may say that sets back the lifestyle. Hopefully that is just temporary and in the end furthers the cause)

Money generally either goes back into the art fund, is used up on each project.
It is art, and sometimes takes more than it makes.
If there is a sale or sponsor, that money goes to the group... The model, the project, the artist.

Why: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 -- (Top)

Why Part III of III

The Market

The market is different than in the past. The internet helped catapult the alternative lifestyles and arts from the fringe. Many of the initial players in the market have already broken barriers. There are some established players, that are able to survive, but overall, the "heyday" is gone for some of the alternative edgy styles. The internet is not so much the wild west, and things are settleing in. Regulation, government, and overall big business burocracy is kicking in. No longer if there a high level of freedom, net neutrality, or openness online. Instead, you have big brother of all kinds including from your employer, school, internet provider, to your bank/credit cards/paypal, and others looking over your shoulder telling you whats ok and whats not.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Social media has given people a free source for various alternative art forms, and has helped blossom a larger community of participants. This means that people do not need to go online

ART NOT Porn: I strive for an artistic creation not a sex sale. The internet was built on, and a lot of money was made on porn, but art which often has an eros side is more of a luxury item, and is built upon the backs of "the starving artist"

The Community: We are now in the era of the other 99% and the community the co-op, granted, trying to let the various voices of the 99% be heard, and spread some of the 1%'s wealth amoung the rest of the people.

Why: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 -- (Top)

Compensation: things to consider (Part I of II)

This is where it gets complicated, people, roles, types of shoots, etc.

To fully understand what is in it for each person,

  • First you must go back to the people.
    • Lifestyle Choice <---> Some hybrid in-between <---> Professional Model
(Each of these can have various levels of experience in different roles)
    • The Model -- The Photographer -- The Rigger & Artist
  • Second, you must consider what people are getting, not getting, and worth. If you notice each of the bullet points above have been broken into three's. Each of these can also have different levels of experience that may factor in. In fact, each of these may have different roles with there own level of experience.
  • Third, you must consider what kind of project is it. While any of these projects can be as edgy or tame as you want, I tend to push the envelope in longer shoots or multiple shoots. I may have seen some of your work, but without working with you before, I can not fully build trust or knowledge to fully utilize the potential and express the art form through you fully.
  • Fourth, expectations.... Obviously depending on where you lay in the experience, you can get in and out quicker, but with everything, there must be time for a discussion, setting up, and getting into character. Even the best models, photographers, riggers, and artist can not jump in upon arrival, and begin immediately.

Product:

Art not Big business.... as a starving artist, my heart and soul goes into each project. I am not a big business making a bunch of money. I don't do thousands of dollars in sales. In fact, while I have stuff for sale, very little if any money is ever made. Most goes back into the product. Eventually I would love to have a gallery opening.

The Fringe... I tend to put forth more alternative works. How edgy I get depends, but while the more out there is more specialized, that does not mean there is more payment. There is less demand the more alternative we get, and there is always a lifestyle person who's always ready to pickup and show off there lifestyle.

You and Me... Experience, output, portfolio, etc.

I have ended up doing block time with my sets. They are simpler, and easier to discuss. With any shoot, there is typically a fair amount of down time during actual shooting where the model is especially taking it easy. During this time the clock is still rolling but the model should be ready at a moments notice. I expect some time between hours to be spent on a restroom break. This break is not scheduled at the top of the hour, but during a period of down time, and/or when the restroom is needed. Hopefully they coincide with each other. There is more than enough down time that extended breaks not be needed, but if the model becomes unavailable multiple times or for an extended period, the clock gets paused.
Live performance
(i.e. 2 hours in the lime light)

I usually like to be available by the time doors open. This allows me to discuss the night in person at the venue. It allows any last minute set changes, and allows you time to get ready and mingle.

I generally do a couple of on display/stage sets early followed by a break and second set later.

These generally depending on the venue, people, and other acts, I like start the night, set the mood, and let others take over for a bit, then offer some mid-night relief between other acts.

The live performances are often playing on stage, showing off, doing a few semi planned sets but playing off the crowd, mood and feel of the night.

Being a public, semi-public, or private audience, may depend on what's done, but in general, being live, it may have a tamer feel because we don't want to scare off the audience when they have not come to "our event"

Generally I say to expect a 30 minute +/- break in the middle

Limited / Short shoot
(i.e. 2 hour)

I generally set aside 4 hours for a two hour shoot. If you think you are good enough for a 2 hour shoot to be done in two hours, that's fine and dandy, but let me know that is your expectation, and please arrive 15 minutes early so I am not in a guessing game. After all, traffic is bad enough, and I want to make sure you get there and are ready. I do not know how long it takes for you to get warmed up, in character, and ready. Not to mention if you want to make any last minute wardrobe, makeup, or hair changes.

In a two hour over four hour shoot the quicker we start, the quicker we can finish. i.e. you might be out of there by 11:30 on a shoot starting at 9am even though I've allotted time till 1pm.

NOTE: In conclusion, just because I have set aside 4 hours to complete a 2 hour shoot does not mean its ok to arrive 2 hours or even 30 minutes late. I am sure you probably going to want an official break vs trying to power through the sets.

These tend to be a bit tamer, but working with the model, we can explore various limits. Theme's can be along the levels of Betty Page, Damsel in distress, cosplay, clothed, nude, or implied, contorted, and the setting can be public or private. Theme can vary widely from things like beauty, sensual, sexual, horror, scary movie, or generally artistic. Some shoots I dictate a specific theme, and others I leave it up to the model.

With any model, I let the model dictate what they are comfortable with and interested in. If it works with what I am wanting to do, then I am more likely to say lets do it, but in the end I am great with variety, and don't want a model that's out of the comfort or goal zone and unable to put on a good show.

I generally expect about a 10 minute break somewhere in the middle separate from the hurry up and wait time.

Extended, endurance, edge shoot
(Half a day +, or multiple shoots)

These are sets where I like to push the limits. These are sets that tend to push the limits of society and/or the model.

These sets are not for the feint of heart. The average person or model is not going to want to do this kind of shoot. This shoot is aimed at the person looking to explore the lifestyle, push the lifestyle.

This is also open to the person who knows they can handle a lot. This shoot pays pretty well, but only for newbies or those that can pull in the name recognition. This is not the kind of shoot that I will do a lot of cash paid sets with. Consider yourself special if you qualify

Like I said, there is not a lot of demand or money available for this kind of shoot, and that is what makes this special.

While I try to push your limits and the limits of society, we do have some pretty strict guidelines we must remain within if we want to offer them for money. That means I can do a dozen of these shoots just for personal growth, art, and exploring new frontiers.

These sets are designed to be so intense that you will probably need multiple extended breaks. I consider these sets either a full day set with only 4 hours of actual working time, or two half day sets.

Compensation: What's in it for me (Part II of II)

Everything has value, what are you getting and giving... what's it worth to you?

Remember that typically 4 of 5 gigs are not cash paying. As such, consider the following ways you can benefit from your session.

TIME & Experience

Everyone has time that is valuable.
Experience makes it worth more
Many photographers are over $100/hour
Many models ask for over $100/hour
Many riggers ask for over $100/hour
Many hair stylists & MUA ask for over $100/hour
Many Pro Dom's and Domme's ask for $300+

Trade for:
  • Pro-Rigger & experience $170 starting value
  • Photography $200-500+ value
  • Portfolio/promotion pics (Priceless)
  • Pics for sale (Value depends on use)
  • Use of dungeon ($80+ value)
  • Spa Gift Certificate
(90 minute Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage $110 value)
  • Bed to stay on for the weekend ($100-500 value)
  • Tour guide (Value Varies)
  • Education (Value Varies)
  • Privacy (Value Varies) i.e. masks, hoods, positional, editing, etc.
Generally, if I am paying, I expect ...
  • a full release
  • More risque
  • Limited use of images on your part
  • Decent value i.e. your name and/or actions should help sell and market product
Your Pay:

I have seen many models ask for more for x, y, or z. Rather than micro pay, nit pick, nudity, full nudity, dirty, fetish, insertion, or spend all this time figuring out what's what, I have broken my payments down into 3 levels. What happens is up to you.

  • A: Live Sets (Generally 2 hours of work over 4 hours of time)
  • B: Limited/Short Shoot (2 hours work over 4 (?) hours of time)
  • C: Extended, endurance, edge shoot (4 hours working with extended breaks
(Half a day +, or multiple shoots up to 8 total hours on site due to extended breaks)
  • D: Test shoot/Audition/Short Shoot
  • E: Special project

Sometimes you see a mixture of time + bonus, or call + time -- Both C & D (except short shoots) above use these types of pay due to there high hourly pay, length of shooting, and edginess.

The live sets may include a bonus such as a portion of the door or tips.

Contact me for the base rate for these shoots, and to se if there is any availability at those rates. If you have a base rate, include that. Be sure to mention any extra selling points that make you more attractive to hire.

Here is a basic/sample model questionnaire (Created for my live stage sets)

Let me know what your goals are and what you are interested in... from there a piece can be created that works well with you.

Things that make you more attractive to hire:

  • If you are open to trading. (Mention what you are open to trading for... Common options are listed above)
  • Nudity (As an option only. I don't like to base a whole shoot on nudity)
  • Working with a partner. Pay is generally for the shoot not number of people
  • Experience & Amateurishness (Each have there own selling point & price point)
  • Name Draw (are you wll known? Let me know!)
  • Having your own theme, story, interests, etc.
  • Tickle Torture
  • Endurance, intense, extreme fetish (Remember extreme topics may not gain extra pay if they "are the shoot")
  • Some common interests include: bondage, hitting (including flogging/caning/slapping, etc), suspension, gagging, hoods, poking, basic electric, tickle tease (short), sensual touching, sensory deprivation, pain, biting, fighting, role playing, etc.

Remember the range:
<--Non-Compensated----Trade----Some Pay----Basic pay----Extra Pay-->
<--Lifestyle Player----Lifestyler for extra income or Amateur Model----Pro-model with name recognition-->

<<NOTE: I leave the standard professional model out of that range>> This is because artistic alternative is outside standard modeling, and many professionals charge extra for alternative modeling. This fee is ok for a big business, but being a starving artist, I rarely get commissions that pay enough for typical professional models to step outside the normal 'vanilla' modeling range. A pro with name recognition may offer a product that is easily sellable

Often times we see blocks. That is the direction I have gone with my pricing. Doing hourly, or per task, granted, on the rare occasion a model is so hard to deal with, with warning I would stop at that time and pro-rate from there. These blocks can be good for the model because if I am done early, we can stop early, and they still get there pay.

In the movie industry we see things like $75/8; $80/10; $100/12, while these are often extra positions, it is similar to these shoots because these are not main stream work that will appear in a major publication or on the big screen, and the shoots often leave the model twiddling there thumbs with free time.

NOTE: NO COMPENSATION IS GIVEN FOR WARDROBE AND MATERIALS YOU TAKE HOME. If there are consumables, let us know and we can see what we can cover.

You may end a session at anytime, and your time will be pro-rated. NO COMPENSATION IS GIVEN FOR DEMO MODELS. i.e. educational events, speaking engagements, etc. It is a privilege to help
